The Starfish Foundation

The Rogue Hunt is now partnering with the Starfish Foundation. Orange boxes from the Rogue Hunt colour scheme are in the top right and bottom left corners of the image, while blue and green squares from the Starfish Foundation colour scheme are in the top left and bottom right corners.

The Starfish Foundation provides scholarship, tutoring, and leadership development to youth living in extreme poverty in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The Starfish Foundation distributes scholarships in the form of all books, uniforms and materials required by the school. You can learn more about their work at https://www.thestarfishchange.org/.

One of the founders of The Starfish Foundation, Jenn, acts as a Rogue judge and translates the list each year into Spanish.

Additionally, teams of Starfish scholars, volunteers, and educators are encouraged to participate in the Rogue Hunt.

Spreading Goodness Like Glitter:

In 2023, more than $8,000 was raised for the Starfish Foundation – including $4,387 for the Joel Baque scholarship (our Spread Goodness Like Glitter Item) which will be awarded for the first time in 2024. The other funds were raised during registration.

In July 2024, Starfish awarded the Joel Baque Scholarship for the first time ever to Emily A, an architecture student at La Universidad Laica Vicente Rocafuerte. “Receiving this scholarship is not only an honor, but also invaluable support for my academic and personal development. I am committee to making the most of this opportunity, dedicating myself fully to my studies… Your support means a lot to me and my family; I sincerely appreciate your generosity” – Emily

In 2024, 40% of hunt registration fees went to Starfish raising and additional $2,615.32 for the organization.

In 2023 and 2024, Starfish acted as the co-host of the Rogue Hunt. Why?

Rogue wasn’t established as an LLC until Spring 2025 and therefore we couldn’t host our own registration. To ensure your safety (as well as our own) collecting personal information, collecting registration fees, and paying out winners had to be run by another entity. Otherwise, you had to rely on two admins who promise to be trustworthy on the internet. Once Rogue Hunt was established as an LLC, we transitioned to hosting our own registration. However, we have kept Starfish as one of the benefactors of the Rogue Hunt for 2025 as a thank you for all the did for us in our early stages of existence.
